Entertainer Actor and chat-show host, Farooque Shaikh had a loyal following with Indian fans. His career began on a high note with the Bollywood film Garam Hawa (1973) about the Partition of India that took place in 1947. Farooque's performance earned him a key role in Bengal's filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, regarded as one of the greatest auteurs of world cinema, in his film The Chess Players (1977), a study of the decadence of Bengal's feudal classes. Active in Mumbai's theatre Farooque acted in a Hindustani version of one of Britain's popular television series, Yes Minister, on Indian television. He also produced a popular TV show, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, on which he interviewed Indian film stars. Born in Amroli, India, Farooque Shaikh died of a heart attack on a visit to Dubai with his family.
