22 April 2023 Eid Khutba – Zakatul Fitr & the ecological capital

In his Eid Khutba in Harrow – at the Shia Ithna Ashari Community of Middlesex (SICM) – Professor Iqbal Asaria reflected on the significance of zakatul fitr. Zakat has to do with purification of the nafs, which sets the scene for action. It should make our lives more meaningful and answerable to Suhanahu Ta’ala, with responsibilities as khalifas on the planet. This notion of stewardship is one that Muslims share with other faiths. Honesty to our beliefs means eschewing israf – as individuals and collectively. Israf is not just about avoiding waste but over consumption and misuse of resources. click here.
