Ismail Samani Amir
The first king of the race of Saman.
Samanis claimed their descent from Bahram Chobin, who fought Khusro Parvez for the Crown of Iran. His father was appointed governor of Mawaraun Nahr by Caliph Mo'tamid in 875. He succeeded his father after his death and in 900 became independent.
The Samani dynasty extended over Khurasan, Balkh, Siestan and Tranoxania including the cities of Samarqand and Bukhara. The Samanis ruled over Iran for 120 years and had nine kings.
