Former Pakistani Cricketer. Imran made his international Test debut in England in 1971 aged 18, then read philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford. He was appointed captain of Pakistan in 1982, and led the team through one of their greatest decades. The peak of his career came in March 1992 when he led them to victory against England in the World Cup in Melbourne. Imran married Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of the late billionaire Sir James Goldsmith, in 1995. His political ambition in Pakistan, however, led to divorce in 2004. Imran set up the Shaukat Khanum Memorial cancer hospital in Lahore in 1996 after his mother died from the disease. Imran formed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice) political party in 1996. The party failed to win a single seat in the 1997 general elections. He has founded a college, in 2008, in Mianwali, near Waziristan border, some 200km southwest of Islamabad. His Namal College, the only private university in rural Pakistan is the cornerstone of his vision to build a 'knowledge City'. Offering its students full degrees, most students, boys and girls, are on scholarships because their families are poor.
