Ibn Durayd compiled an Arabic dictionary, Jam Harat al Lughah and wrote Kitab al Ishtiqaq on the etymology and AL Malahim.
Ibn Durayd was born in Basra, and lived in Baghdad under the patronage of Caliph al Maqtadir.
