Nazir Hussain

The leader of the Ahl-e-Hadis, a branch of the Tariqah-i-Muhammadiyah, founded by Syed Ahmad Barelivi who was a disciple of Shah Waliullah. Nazir Hussain was educated at his hometown, Sadiqpur, Patna, India. In 1826 he came to Delhi and met Shah Abdul Aziz the eldest son of Shah Waliullah. At the core of Ahl-e-Hadis doctrine lay an acceptance of God, His books, His Prophets and, His Angles as enjoined in the Qur'an. Ahl-e-Hadis rejected rituals associated with saintly shrines, attacked the Institution of dowry as non-Muslim innovation and advocated widow re-marriage as Islamic.
