After the death of al Hakam, he rose to the post of royal chamberlain (Hajib) and Vizier under the patronage of the Queen Subh. Hajib built for himself in 978 a magnificent city called al Madinah al Zahrah and took the title of Mansur bi-Allah (Victorious through the aid of Allah) in 981.
