Abul Tahir Muhammad Bin Yaqub Al Firuzabadi

The Iranian compiler of the Arabic dictionary al Qamus (the ocean) which served as the basis of European dictionaries of Arabic. Firuzabadi taught in Jerusalem during 1349-59 but settled in Makkah in 1368 and remained there for 15 years. Firuzabadi travelled to India and other countries and was appointed Qazi of Yemen in 1395. Firuzabadi authored about forty works but this magnum opus was Al Qamus that ran into sixty volumes.
