One of the most talented Algerian women writers.
Fatima first novel was La Soif (The Mischief) and then Les Impatients (1958), La Enfants du Nouveau Monde (The children of the new world) 1962, and Les Alouettes Naives (1967), describing the Algerian women's contribution to the war of independence from France. A collection of her poems was published in 1969.
Fatima, whose penname is Assia Djebor, taught history at the University of Algiers, and became a film maker for the national television.
