Pakistan's versatile performer Pakistani television, film and stage actor, as well as a comedian, impersonator, and a host Moin Akhtar (or Moeen Akhtar) was also a play writer, singer, film director and a producer. Having made his debut for television in 1966 in a variety show held on Pakistan television (PTV), Moin Akhtar rose to the national spotlight and gathered critical acclaim for his performance in the drama Rosy / Rozy in which he played the role of a female TV artist. Rozy was an Urdu adaptation of Hollywood movie Tootsie. Moreover, in a talk-show namely Loose Talk, which began in 2005 on ARY Digital, he appeared as a different character in each and every of over 400 episodes interviewed by Anwar Maqsood, the writer and the host of the program. Beloved for providing humour for people of all ages, and with etiquette rendered Moin Akhtar a favourite amongst family audiences. He was fluent in several languages, including English, Bengali, Sindhi, Punjabi, Memon, Pushto, Gujarati and Urdu. He performed not only in Pakistan but played in several stage shows in India too. But Moin Akhtar was a lot more than just a comic. Beginning his long career as an impersonator, he went on to become a much appreciated stand-up comedian, TV, film and stage actor, talk-show host and then ultimately, going back to doing impersonations. Born in Karachi to Urdu speaking father and Pashto speaking mother, Moin Akhtar was a dynamic and versatile performer. A reckless and unhealthy lifestyle, his workaholic nature and the failure of his film venture led Moin Akhtar to suffer a heart attack. He got a by-pass done in 1997. He passed away in Karachi.
