Manzooruddin Ahmed

Birth:1929

Death:

Former vice chancellor of Karachi University. Former vice chancellor of Karachi University, Dr. Manzooruddin Ahmed author of several books has recently co-authored titled Pakistan: Azadi ka natamam safar. The book has been launched on the Quaid's birthday, 25 December 2009, in the US. In his view Pakistan's creation was not simply an issue of Hindu-Muslim divide but that economics had a big role in the separation of 1947. In his opinion, common Pakistanis got their independence but not freedom. Pakistani elites have kept the country in confusion allowing outside elements to take advantage of the current crisis situation. Born at Sultanpur (UP) India Manzooruddin completed a Master of Diplomacy/International Affairs from Allahabad University in 1949. He did his PhD in Political Science from Columbia University, New York in 1960. Dr. Ahmed was also a teacher at Columbia, including a stint as the Quaid-i-Azam distinguished Professor of Political Science and Director of Pakistan Centre/Southern Asian Institute at the same institution, occupying the Pakistan Chair (1976 to 1979) revived by Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto during a 1973 visit to the US (after its suspension during the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict).
