Champion for the peaceful unification of Africa The champion of Pan-African vision and the peaceful unification of Africa, Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, was also a thinker, writer and prodigious orator who inspired and influenced a whole generation of Africans with his mixture of passion and humour. In his days in London Tajudeen helped found a number of think tanks and African organisations such as the Africa Research Information Bureau, where he edited its journal, Africa World Review. As the founding chairman of the Centre for Democracy and Development he helped found Justice Africa. The position of the Secretary General of the Pan-African movement gave Tajudeen international status and access to African leaders. Back in Nigeria he campaigned against the generals who misruled the country. In 2002 he was arrested as he was trying to return to London. Lately, Tajudeen was working for the UN in Nairobi to promote the achievements of the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. While Tajudeen kept lecturing and writing, his weekly Thursday Postcards appeared without fail and were syndicated to newspapers throughout Africa. His message was of African self-confidence and solidarity to a vast audience. Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem was born in Funtua, Nigeria. He won a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford. Stocky and bearded Tajudeen died in a car crash in Nairobi.
