Although a veteran of countless hit films and an object of admiration for millions of fans stretching from North Africa to the Gulf peninsula Hanan Tork (also known El Turk) Egyptian film star of Turkish descent also devotes her free time to charity work. With her big puppy eyes and childlike innocent demeanour Hanan Tork burst into the scene in 1991 in Raghba Motawahesha (Wild Desire). She won accolades for her portrayal of a mentally challenged young lady (Sara), a homeless tearaway Awald El-Sharea (Street Kids). She starred in film touching on the taboo topic of female circumcision Dunia. In 1994, Tork starred in the controversial film Al-Mohager (The Immigrant), which depicted Prophet Joseph. The film angered many Muslims in the Arab world, as it was blasphemous to show prophets in film. In 2001, in a brief introduction to Western audience when La Tempete was aired in the San Francisco Film Festival, Tork played the love interest of an Egyptian man who fights for Iraq and against his countrymen in the Gulf War. Now wearing hijab, Tork has decided to become a global ambassador for Islamic Relief. Islamic Relief is the largest Muslim relief development and international charity, based in Birmingham (UK), on mission to help people in need. Tork has been acting with her hijab in the TV drama Awald El-Sharea (Street Kids). Born Hanan Hassan Muhammad Abd El-Karim, in Greece into a Turkish family owing a garment factory, Hanan Tork completed her studies in Cairo Ballet Institute as a ballerina in 1993.
