Murad Wilfried Hofmann

German diplomat and author Educated in Munich University and Harvard Law School, Murad Wilfred Hofmann served in the German Foreign Service (1961-1994), specialising in nuclear and defence strategy. He has held such prominent posts as Ambassador to Algeria and to Morocco. He also served as the Director of Information for NATO in Brussles in the mid-1980s. Born Catholic, Hofmann's conversion, in 1980, to Islam was considered somewhat controversial due to his high standing in German government. The German government, however, allowed him to continue his career. Murad has authored number of works on Islam, in particular a number of books and essays focusing on the role of Islam in the West following the 9/11 attacks.
