Pakistan's literary figure and reformer In his goal to promote educational and literary traditions of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Syed Altaf Ali Barelvi contributed to the community of writers by encouraging them expressing ideas in writing. Having graduated from Aligarh University, in 1927, his extensive activities in socio-political surrounding led him to establish the Muslim Youth Party, a library and a girls' school in Bareli where he was born. His book 'Hayat-e-Hafiz Rehmat Khan' in 1934, which instantly became a hit determined the goal of his life. In 1941, he founded the 'Majlis-e-Musannifeen' (The Author's Group) comprising researchers and writer across the whole of India. A quarterly titled the 'Musannif' was launched which also published books that included three books by Syed Altaf Ali. He migrated to Pakistan. He laid the foundation of the All Pakistan Educational Conference (APEC) in 1951 in Karachi. Under the APEC's patronage, an academy of Educational Research for publishing books was founded, he set up a library with 25,000-books, a free reading room and a museum of rare historical photographs also became part of it. Over a hundred books have been published so far. He launched the quarterly organ Al-Ilm, which he edited until his demise. He also laid down the foundation of the Sir Syed Girls' College in Karachi. His autobiography, 'Dairy of a Student', stands out as an outstanding in its own right. Syed Altaf Ali also known as Sir Syed Junior passed away in Karachi.
