A female mystic and poetess from Gujarat
Better known as Bibi Tahira, she was the last known member of the Kadiwala family of Ismaili Khoja community in India and a ginan composer.
With her first public appearance in 1829, Bibi Tahira organised the gathering of the Ismaili women, in Bombay, to discuss ginans - the devotional couplets of wisdom - and was famous for her piety and learning.
Bibi Tahira, born Sayeda Imam Begum in Kera, Kutch of Gujarat, passed away at Karachi.
