Pakistani film star. With his appearances in over 100 Urdu films, Muhammad Ali was the undisputed 'Lion of Lollywood', Pakistan's film city of Lahore, impressing audiences for nearly three decades with his acting versatility, rich baritone and towering personality. In 1956, Ali joined Radio Pakistan where his booming voice and perfect Urdu diction invited immediate notice and made him a local celebrity. In his first film, in 1962, Chirag jalta Raha, Ali cast as a villain along with the leading lady Zeba whom he married six years later and a series of villainous roles followed in a number of films. His sensitive performance in Khamosh Raho (1964) earned him the first of seven Nigars, Pakistan's highest cinematic award. Ali retired in 1989 following Kiraya ka Katil. He also acted in several films in Punjabi and Pushto and a small role in just one Bollywood film Clerk (1989). Muhammad Ali was born in Rohtak in northern India into a middle-class, religious family. As a highly caring person he founded, in the 1990s, Ali-Zeb foundation to help the terminally ill, especially those suffering from cancer. He died in Lahore.
