Birth:1909

Death:1977

The founder of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Shaikh an-Nabhani having graduated, in 1932, from al-Azhar University returned to Palestine and held high position at the court of Haifa until Israel overran Palestine in 1948. The exodus from Palestine took him to Syria and then to Jerusalem where he was a judge in the Court of Appeal until 1951 and then he went to Amman. Shaikh an-Nabhani became politically active and in 1953 he established Hizb ut-Tahrir (Liberation Party) in al-Quds. However, the Jordanian government against the hard-line policies of its party members meted out harsh reactions, and these continue until this day. Today, Hizb ut-Tahrir enjoys its following particularly by young Muslims and the party has been able to grow in many parts of the world. Muhammad Taqiuddin who hailed from an ancient Arab tribe of Bani Nabhan was born in the village of Ijzim, within the district of Haifa. The Islamic surrounding in which he grew up contributed to his intellectual genius and unique personality. Shaikh an-Nabhani died in Beirut.
