An Indian religious and political leader.
The founder of Jamia Milia and Jamait-e-Ulma in 1919, Maulana Mahmud ul Hasan, also known as Sheikh-ul-Hind, was a great Islamic scholar and a dedicated nationalist guide.
He was arrested, on his visit to Makkah in 1916, by the British and was sentenced to a four-year confinement along with other Indian nationalists, in Malta, for which he was described as Asir-e-Malta.
Mahmud ul Hasan was born in Bareiley, (UP), son of a highly educated and nationalist father.
