Mehmet Namiq Kemal

A Turkish poet and nationalist.
Kemal was the editor of Tasvir-i-efkar. After having differences with the government officials he left for Paris and started publishing Hurriyet from there. However, he was known in Turkey for his patriotic poetry.
He was a champion of the young Turks, a great patriot and author of verses in Arabic, Persian and Turkish. He translated Bacon, Rousseau and others in Turkish, authored dramas Father Land 1872 and Akif Bey, a history of Turkey, historical novels, biographies etc.
Namiq Kamal was also known as Kamal Bey.
