Tenth Caliph of the house of Ummaya succeeded his brother in 724. In his time lived the celebrated Majnun, the lover of Laila. It was said that 600 camels used to be in his attendance to carry his splendid wardrobe. After Muswiyah and Abdul Malik, he was considered the last statesman of the Umayads.
