Anvari Auhad Al Din Ali

Birth:

Death:1190

An Iranian classical poet. He was born near Merv, studied at Tus and became the court poet of Sultan Sanjar Saljugi. After the death of Sanjar in 1157, he passed his last years in scholarly retirement. His longest poem about the invasion of Iran and its destruction by Ghuzz tribe's men, was translated into English in 1785 by W. Kirkpatrick under the title The tears of Khurasan. E. H. Pallmer's translation of Anvaris Palinodia was a bitter satire of disillusioned old age. However his fame was due to his Qasidas.
