Usman Dinga

Death:1926

The Sudanese leader of the Mahdist revolt which broke out in 1881. When Osman heard of the advent of Muhammad Ahmad al Mahdi, he became his follower in 1883. He was given the task of propagating in his Beja tribe. With the help of his tribesman he took the principal town of that region called Tokar. From 1883 to 1891 he was active in eastern Sudan. In 1891 Toker was captured by Anglo-Egyptian force. While trying to flee he was captured in 1900 and was imprisoned till 1908.
