The first Sultan of Saljuqs. He was in the service of Mahmud Ghaznawi. After defeating his son Masud in 1038 he became the ruler of Nishapur and subdued Qaem Billah, the Caliph of Baghdad, who invited him as Sultan of Khurasan. He ruled for twenty-five years. The Saljucis ruled for about 158 years.
