The founder of the Tahirid dynasty. Tahir was a military general, who was awarded the North Eastern Iran by the Abbasid Caliph of Baghdad and was virtually independent. He was the general of Al Mamun, who helped him against Al Amin. Tahir was the founder of the Tahirid dynasty (821 - 873) in Khorasan, Iran.
