Rashid Raza Muhammad

A Syrian scholar. The writing of Muhammad Abduh and Jamaluddin Afghani profoundly influenced Rashid. He also wrote Muhammad Abduh's biography, and was the founder editor of al-Manar in 1898. Rashid believed in the positive effort to improve the material conditions of the Muslims and urged to emulate the scientific progress of the west. He also believed in bending the Sharia to fit the demands of modern times and wanted Muslim governments to adapt to the needs of modern society.
