The founder of a sect called Jammat Ahmadiya. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian founded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association in 1889 and declared him to be Mahdi in 1891. He made the spurious claims in a series of assertions: that he was the Promised Messiah of the Christian and Muslim traditions; he was a prophet, suggesting that prophesy had not come to an end with the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Ghulam Ahmad's claim considered by his followers to be a Prophet fundamentally differed from the mainstream of Islam - hence seen as heretic by the main majority and by others something of curiosity. He was the author of many books. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was born at Qadian, East Punjab in India.
