A Turkish religious leader also known as Bediuzzaman (the Wonder of the Age). Nurculuk, the modern Turkish religious movement takes its name from him. His collection of writings was called Risale-i-nur. His Nurculuck (Nuren in Turkish means men of Nursi) order was spread to big cities. Bediuzzaman who studied and mastered almost all the physical and mathematical sciences was the embodiment in many dimensions of achievement, and his personality and character was and, through his continuing influence, still is an important figure of love for the cause of faith in the shade of the Qur'an and the Prophet's, peace be upon him, examples. He favoured the re-establishment of an Islamic state based upon the shariah and endeavoured to prove and demonstrate that Islam is compatible with modern sciences and progress and Qur'an was the source of true progress and civilisation. He was the most serious and important thinker of the twentieth-century. Said Nursi was born in Nurs in eastern Turkey with a predominantly Kurdish population. He displayed an extraordinary intelligence and ability to learn from an early age. He had prodigious memory and was also known for debating. He died in his exile in Urfa.
