Nural Hilmi Burhanuddin Bin Muhammad

A Malaysian nationalist leader. He went to India in 1928 and attended Aligarh Muslim University and came in touch with leading Muslim leaders there. After his return, he started a Madrasa in Singapore and was a member of Young Malay Union. During the Japanese occupation of Malay, Nural planned with Indonesian leaders to free his country. He was president of the Malay Nationalist party after the end of the war. Due to insurgence of the Communist in 1948, he was detained by the British for alleged involvement in anti-British riot in 1950. In 1956 he was president of the Pan-Malayam Islamic party and was elected in 1959 to the parliament. Again arrested in 1965 but released in 1966 due to poor health. He remained the president of the Pan Malyayam Islamic party till his death.
