The politician who gave up everything in favour of Pakistan. Khawaja Nazimuddin was an influential member of the Muslim League and a trusted man of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He was the minister of Education 1929-34, home minister 1937-41 and Chief Minister 1937-41 in the undivided Bengal. After the creation of Pakistan, in 1947, he became the premier of East Pakistan. Khawaja Nazimuddin succeeded Muhammad Ali Jinnah as the second Governor General of Pakistan in 1948. He resigned in favour of Ghulam Muhammad in order to become the prime minister of Pakistan when Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in 1951. Khawaja was the nephew (sister's son) of Nawab Sir Salimullah of Dhaka who founded the Muslim League, in 1906, in British India, a political platform that led to the creation of Pakistan in 1947. Khawaja Nazimuddin was among a few who voluntarily relinquished the Knighthood awarded to him by the British colonial power of India during his country's independence movement. Khawaja Nazimuddin who gave up title to huge landed estate belonging to him and his extended families in favour of Pakistan on becoming the Chief Minister of the former East Pakistan in 1947 retired from politics in 1952.
