Quli Qutb Shah II Sultan

The son of Ibrahim Qutb Shah, he ascended the throne in 1581. Quli concluded peace with the neighbouring state of Bijapur by giving his sister in marriage to Adil Shah, the Bijapur King. He founded a city 8 miles away from Golconda and called it Bhagnagar after his mistress Bhagmati. Later the city was named Hyderabad, (Hyder Mahal was the title of Bhagmati). Quli authored Kuliyat Qutb Shahi containing Hindi, Dakhni and Persian poems. He was considered the first poet of Dakhni or Urdu. Quli reigned for thirty-one years and was succeeded by his brother.
