An Egyptian writer. Qasim criticised customs, such as the veiling and social seclusion of women, the wife's lack of power to divorce and husband's unlimited rights of divorce as unIslamic. Huda Shaarawa, a leader of the feminist movement in Egypt, has hailed him as 'the hero of the feminist awakening and its founder'. Qasim Amin authored Tahrir al Mar'ah, (The emancipation of women) and, Al Mar'ah al Jadida (The new woman).
