Haiti earthquake was a
catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake. Its epicentre was near Léogâne,
approximately 25 km (16 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of
Haiti. The earthquake occurred at 16:53:10 local time (21:53:10 UTC) on
Tuesday, 12 January 2010, at a depth of 13 km (8.1 miles).

Simpson was so upset by the devastation wrought by the earthquake that he
told his mother he wanted to do anything he could to help. The boy set out
to raise £500 for Unicef's Haiti appeal by riding his bike five miles around
his local park – but the schoolboy's efforts inspired hundreds of people
online who donated a total of more than £60,000 in just one day.
