"The
Life of The Last Prophet" by Yusuf
Islam
It is a two disc set consisting of a 65 minute spoken word biography of The
Life Of The Last Prophet (Album) Muhammad, written and read by Yusuf Islam.
The biography includes Qur'anic recitation, singing and sound effects. The story
is broken into four parts and spans 33 tracks on the CD. Disc two contains three
additional tracks which are Nasheeds (songs). Of the three songs, Yusuf only
sings lead on the first, "Tala'a al-Badru 'Alayna (Song)." The only
musical instrument used is a drum but the additional vocals including the choral
group, "Children Of Jordan" fill in the gaps.
"The Life of the Prophet Muhammad": Al-Sira Al-Nabawiyya. They
are great books of Islamic Civilization Series. Translated by Prof. Trevor Le
Gassick. Reviewed by Dr Ahmed Fareed. Compiled in the Fourteenth century AD
by a prominent Syrian scholar, al-Sira al-Nabawiyya by Ibn Kathir is a full
examination, in chronological order, of the background, life and mission of
the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Drawn from the earliest and most reliable Arabic
sources, it offers, in this English translation, the fullest available account
of the historical circumstances and personalities most important in the founding
of Islam.
"Ar-Raheeq
Al-Makhtum", (The Sealed Nectar) Saifur Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
It is considered the most authentic biography of the Prophet (pbuh) in English,
and well written book. It covers pre-Arabia and the entire life of the Prophet
(pbuh), specific instances when ayahs came down and analyzes some aspects of
the seerah. It has a lot of wonderful information and hours of insightful reading.

"Stories of the Prophets" by Imam Ibn Kathir, translated by
Sheikh Muhammad Mustafa Gemeiah. This classical work by the great scholar Ibn
Kathir shares detailed information about the lives of the twenty-five Prophets
mentioned by name in the Quran. Based on Islamic sources, the stories
inclusively present whatever is known about these blessed individuals: the circumstances
of their spreading the message, the nations where they lived, how they were
treated, their unique trials and the results of their teaching. As one reads
through the accounts, Allahs reasons for sending the Prophets are unveiled.
The distinct style of writing makes it easy for both adults and children to
understand and makes a valuable addition to a Muslim family library. It is available
in either English or Arabic.
"Muhammad" by Martin Lings. This biography of Muhammad (pbuh),
unlike others, is based on Arabic sources of the 8th and 9th centuries (of which
some key passages are translated for the first time). It owes its freshness
and directness of approach to the words of men and women who heard the Blessed
Prophet speak and witnessed the events of his life. Nothing remotely comparable
exists in English, or in any other European language.Really good book.
"Muhammad:
A Biography of the Prophet" by Karen Armstrong
She gives the reader some background information on the time period and culture
in which Islam was given its birth. Also she discusses Muhammad's life through
the remainder of the book. In the final chapter, after discussing the events
surrounding his death, she gives a brief overview of post-Muhammad Islam.
The
fairest of stories, The Life Story of Joseph in the Qur'an by Ahmad Zaki
Hammad
It is important to be wary of viewing Joseph's story as a kind of fairy tale,
as it so often happens with prophetic history, when heroes of morality are relegated
to the realm of myth and fable. What you're about to read happened in real life
to real men and women in a remarkable series of events, a grand chapter in human
history, that one would be wise to turn to for support and uplifting, for it
conveys to us what cannot be carried on the legs of any lecture or ruling...
