Jumabek held a number of senior posts including mayor of the capital Bishkek (1993-1995). He was advisor on economic to the president (1996) and representative to People’s Assembly.
In his last position as Prime minister of Kyrgyzstan, he introduced various measures to combat corruption and reform the economy.
Jumabek was born in Kemin district and was trained as engineer. He died of stomach cancer.
