Ibn Al Farid studied law and settled near Cairo for a solitary religious life. He met the famous Sufi, as Suhrawardi of Baghdad, who left a profound influence on him. A.J. Arberry and R.A.Hicholson translated his nazm, as-Suuluk and Khamriyah into English in 1921 respectively.
In the field of mystic poetry, Ibn Al Farid was the only Arab to have greatest fame, the rest of the famous mystic poets like Rumi and Hafiz were Persians.
