Habba Khatoon whose real name was Zun (the moon) was well versed in Arabic and Persian. Her married life did not last long and she was finally divorced. Prince Yusuf Shah of Kashmir married her later on.
In 1586 the Mughal Emperor Akbar imprisoned her husband, the prince of Kashmir. It is believed that after this event she left the palace and wandered over the hills and lakes of Kashmir and sang the songs of pain and separation. She wrote beautiful songs about love and pain and even after more than 400 years her name is a household word in Kashmir.
