Name :Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil
Period :1644 - 1730
Biographical detail : A Persian poet of India.

His works included Chahar Unsar, Irfan, Tilsim e Hairat, etc. and a Diwan. He was a Sufi poet and never wrote a single line in praise of a monarch or a ruler.

Bedil was born at Azimabad, Bihar, he came to Delhi during Aurangzeb's reign. Ghalib and Iqbal of India were both influenced by him.

for those interested, the asiatic socety's perso-arabic section here in calcutta has a somewhat weathered but still beautiful 2 volume edition of Bedil's works: Kulliyat e Bedil.
