|Biographical detail : || The father of the greatest mystic poet in the Persian language, Jalaluddin Rumi.
He himself was a noted mystic, author and teacher. His family left Nishapur in Iran in about 1218 and after pilgrimage to Makkah, settled in Anatolia (Rum). He moved to Qonya in 1228 and became a religious teacher. One of his famous disciples was Burhanuddin Muhaqqiq who arrived in Qonya in 1232 and helped considerably his son's (Jalaluddin's) spiritual formation and acquainted him with new mystical theories.
