|Belonging to a distinguished Syed family of northern India of Zaidi-al-Waasiti descent. Also given the academic title of Shams-ul-Ulema, like his father; Syed Waheed-u-din Khan (Azad), and his grandfather; Syed Imdad Ali. Wrote several books (between 9 and 10, mostly in Urdu but also in English, on various topics. These include, history and philosophy of eastern and western science, islamic theology, comparision of Urdu, Arabic and Persian literatures,horticulture and gardening etc. His divan of Urdu and Persian poetry has recently been published in Lahore, Pakistan.
He was also the father of two of India's most gifted lawyers and statesmen viz., Sir Syed Ali Imam (KSCI) and Mr. Justice Syed Hassan Imam, President of All India Congress; and the grandfather of Mr. Justice Jafar Imam, Justice of the Indian Supreme Court and his younger brother,Mr. Justice Naqi Imam of the Delhi High Court.

1) Miraat-ul-Hukamaa'--- A comparision ofWestern and Eastern sciences.
2) Kaashif-ul-Haqaaiq --- Commentry on literatures of various regions of the world and a detailed comparision of Urdu, Persian and Arabic poetic traditions.
3)Misbaah-u-Zulam --- Islamic history & theology
5)Fasaana-e-Himmat --- A didactic novel
6)Kitab-ul-Asmaar --- Cultivation of fruits!
7)Kimyaa-e-Zaraa'at --- Horticulture
8)Divan-e-Asar -- Compilation of his Urdu and Persian poetry.
