Biographical detail : The Moroccan scholar, writer, political leader and founder of Istiqlal party.

Fasi was educated at Al-Qarwiyen university. He went into exile in 1947 and did not return to Morocco until it gained independence in 1956. He joined the government in 1961 and was the minister of Islamic affairs till 1963, when he opposed government policy. Istiqlal became the major opposition party under his leadership.

Fasiís most important writings included The Independence Movement in Arab North Africa in 1947, Self Criticism 1951 and The Call of Cairo in 1959.

The Moroccan nationalist leader, called the father of Moroccan nationalism. He was also a powerful writer and speaker. In 1943 he became the Chief of Istiqlal party and ultimately gained independence for his country from France in 1956.
