| Biographical detail : | Born at Istanbul, he was the Grand Wazir of the Ottoman Sultan.
He learnt French and was appointed Ambassador in London during 1841-44, became foreign minister and took part in conferences at Vienna in 1855 and Paris in 1856. He was Grand Wazir, five times during 1852, 1855-56, 1858-59, 1861 and 1867-71. He resolved the Serbia and Moldavia-Wallachia issues peacefully and pacified the Cretan revolt. He served under Sultan Abdul Majid I and Sultan Abdul Aziz and was a devout Muslim. |
