Bassam Salih Kubba embarked on a diplomatic career and joined the Foreign Ministry in 1967, worked at Iraqi Embassy in Nigeria (1970-72), Paris (1973-75) and then again for five years during 1980s. He headed the Iraqi mission at the UN between 1975 and 1978. He was also Iraqi Ambassador to China for a time.
Kubba was one of few Iraqis who had held prominent positions in the Saddam era to be co-opted by the interim regime and served on the steering committee of Foreign Ministry.
Bassam Salih Kubba was born in Baghdad into a family of merchants in silk fabric trade. The quite, unassuming man was assassinated in Baghdad on his way to work.
