Mustafa al-Hallaj known as Shaikh al Fannaneen was a legendary figure in the Arab-Palestine world of art. He produced hundreds of art works since 1960s including paintings, graphics, murals, illustrations, cover designs and etchings. Hallaj was attracted to the ancient pharaonic arts carrying symbols of Pharaohs.

Mustafa al-Hallaj who made Damascus his home laid the foundation for an art gallery, which became a reality in 1987, in the memory of Naji Ali, the famous Palestinian cartoonist who was mysteriously killed in London years ago. Hallaj’s last experiment was ‘Palestine Panorama’, a 95-metre long and half-metre wide mural done during his journey to Tunisia.

Mustafa al-Hallaj’s interests extended to other creative fields such as short story, novel, cinema, drama and music.

Mustafa al-Hallaj who was born in the village of Salma in Yafa, Palestine but moved to Egypt in 1948, after Zionist invasion. He died in a fire blast in his house, in Damascus, trying to save his works.
