|Biographical detail : || A Sufi poet.
Born in Yasi, a town later called Turkestan. He exercised a powerful influence on the development of mystic orders throughout the Turkish region. His significance in the formation of a Turkish Islamic tradition was undisputed. His Yasaviyya order replaced the ancient religion of the Turks and spread throughout Turkishtan, Transoxiana, Khurasan, Azerbaijan and Anatolia. He went to Bukhara to study under Yusuf Hamdani and other famous mystic leaders.
Authored Diwan-e-Hikmat containing mystical poems. His poetry greatly influenced Turkish literature. Timur erected in 1398 an edifice over his grave on Sir Darya.
