Toure Ahmad organised a successful strike in French West Africa and in 1945 was the Secretary General of the Post Telecommunications Workers Union of Guinea. He was a powerful orator and was elected to the French National Assembly in 1951, elected Mayor and in 1957 vice president of the Executive Council of Guinea.
In October 1958 Guinea became the first Independent state in Africa and he was elected its first President. In 1982, he led the delegation sent by the Islamic Conference Organisation to mediate in the Iran-Iraq War.
Toure Ahmad Sekou was also the author of La Revolution, 1946 and Las Poemes Militants, 1964.
