Name :Sultan Ali Mashadi

Biographical detail : A calligrapher and poet from Mashhad.

In calligraphy Sultan Ali was a pupil of Maulana Azhar, (who was a pupil of Jafar and Jafar was a pupil of Mir Ali, the inventor of the Nastaliq). Mashadi was the most famous calligraphist of Nastaliq style. He served all his life under Amir Ali Sher Nawai (844-906 A.H.) who was the Wazir of Sultan Hussain Mirza.

Two of Mashadi’s manuscripts are available at Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh and at Rampur in India.
