Shauqi Ahmad, by 1914, was a leading literary figure in the Arab world. In 1927 he was proclaimed amir-ul-shuara. His poem muluk-ul-arab, showed him as a precursor of Arab nationalism. He also wrote Masra Kulabatara (the fall of Cleopatra) one of his poetical plays. He wrote poetical plays on western models.
Shauqi Ahmad was born in Cairo, and he was sent by the Khadive to study in Paris.
