Shaikh Rahman’s life was spent in fighting against religious obscurantism, military authoritarianism and political corruption.
He wrote and published many books on fiction, plays, verse, autobiography, etc., but his first novel, Janani (1944-45), set against the rise of communal politics of India, remains the best.
Shaikh Azizur Rahman was born in Hoogley, India and he was a man of crusading spirit. On his death the whole Bangladeshi cabinet were gathered at his bedside. See Shaukat Osman. |
