Filmmaker, Moustapha Akkad, who produced horror movie franchise died of his wounds sustained in the triple hotel bombings in Amman, Jordan. He lived in Los Angeles and was in Jordan to attend a wedding.

Moustapha came to the US in 1950 to study filmmaking and gained fame as a director and producer in the Arab world and in the West. He produced and directed “The Message” (1976), a film about Islamic history and “Lion of the Desert” (1981), which tells the story of a Muslim rebel who fought against Italy’s World War II conquest of Libya – both starred Anthony Quinn.

Moustapha Akkad, the eldest of eight children, was born in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo.
